Mikhail Grachev and Pol Rosell to drive new Volkswagen Golf
Liqui Moly Team Engstler regular driver Mikhail Grachev will be joined by 2014 SEAT León Eurocup champion Pol Rosell for the maiden appearance of the new Volkswagen Golf TCR in Spielberg, Austria.
The Russian will switch to his third different car this season, starting off with the Audi TT before getting behind the wheel of a SEAT León Racer when the German car was outlawed after Portimao, the car already racing under a waiver ever since the start of the season. Grachev will therefore use the new Volkswagen Golf at the Red Bull Ring.
Rosell has been heavily involved in testing and development of the newly-built machine, and was granted the opportunity to take part in his maiden TCR International Series appearance along with the newcoming Golf: “I was called on only last Friday and felt honoured to be given this opportunity,” said the 23-year-old. “I have been involved in the development and testing programme of the Golf TCR, so I am familiar with it, and my first impressions about the car were very positive. I’m hopeful we can have a positive debut.” The Spaniard won Race 2 last week in the SEAT León Eurocup race at the Red Bull Ring.
Liqui Moly Team Engstler have been appointed as partners of Volkswagen Motorsport, running the cars until the end of the test phase as the German manufacturer evaluates a full customer programme in the TCR Series.
