Sam Tordoff: “I’ve learned a lot and my time will come”

Sam Tordoff described his second year in the BTCC as “very frustrating,” and said mechanical failures have cost him more than 100 points in the championship in 2014.

In his second year, Tordoff took one win and five more podiums for Triple Eight, ending the year seventh in the standings.

The Yorkshireman has pledged to return to the championship in 2015, but says he is not sure who he will be driving for yet.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Tordoff said: “As a whole, it’s been very frustrating. We had championship aspirations which were better than where we have come. But we’ve lost a lot of points through mechanical failures – I’ve calculated we’ve lost the best part of 100 points, which would have catapulted me so much higher in the championship.

“But it wasn’t to be. My time will come. I’ve learned a lot and I’ll come back next year. The plan is to be in touring cars – I don’t know with who or in what, but I’ll be back.”

Assessing the final weekend, which netted him a second, third and fourth, Tordoff said: “I think the weekend’s gone very well, and we did what we set out to achieve. We won the manufacturers’ championship for MG, and I think we won that fair and square. We were the quickest car this weekend.

“With regards to me, I did the job I had to do in race one, and took one for the team. I backed it up with a podium in race two, and a strong race three. I’m very happy.

“The conditions in race three were quite difficult, but nevertheless we came forward. It was just a case of keeping it on the black stuff. Visibility was horrendous.”
