Ford Performance Racing evaluates Mustang model
Ford Performance Racing are currently evaluating the Mustang model for a potential introduction of the coupé model in V8 Supercars.
“The opportunity is there for a V8 Supercar to be a two-door. If we want to do a two-door vehicle going forward then that will be part of it. It’s all part of manufacturers going forward and being able to accommodate what they want to do,” said Rod Nash, FPR co-owner, to v8supercars.com.au.
The current Falcon model is about to be discontinued as Ford stops local manufacturing in Australia. The new Mustang model is going to be introduced in Australia late 2015 and with Holden’s Commodore model also being discontinued, we are likely to see a number of new models to the championship in the future.
Ford Performance Racing’s discussions with Ford about the future are still early and co-owner Nash refuses to go into details.
“We can’t put any spin on it either way because we know where we are at but it would be unfair to make any comment. Equally with Ford, they don’t make any comment from their side and there has been an understanding of parameters that we would all work to and work towards and I have to say both sides are adhering to exactly that,” said Nash.
The V8 Supercars races this weekend with the Castrol Townsville 500.
