Norbert Michelisz tops morning warm up at Sonoma Raceway

Zengõ Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz set his best time of the weekend in the morning warm up at Sonoma Raceway ahead of the Lada Granta of James Thompson.

The Hungarian driver was the only driver in the 1:45s in the 15 minute session at the California circuit, just under half a second faster than the Lada Granta WTCC of James Thompson, who was also faster than he was in qualifying yesterday.

Tiago Monteiro made it two Hondas in the top three, with the Portuguese driver just ahead of the RML Chevrolet of Yvan Muller and the Proteam BMW of Mehdi Bennani.

There were no major incidents in the session besides a pair of offs for René Münnich’s SEAT and Mikhail Kozlovskiy’s Lada at Turn 2.

A few drivers were warned for cutting Turn 2, including reigning champion Rob Huff, who had his fastest time of the session disallowed.

Michelisz will start from the back of the grid for the first race of the day after an engine change before qualifying yesterday.

The first race of the day starts at 11:50 PST.
