Honda gain weight, SEAT lose weight for Sonoma

The three Honda Civics will gain an extra 10kg in compensation weight for the next round of the World Touring Car Championship at Sonoma Raceway, whilst the five SEATs will shed 10kg of ballast after the latest calculations by the FIA.

With the results from Moscow, Porto and Termas de Río Hondo taken into consideration, the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T remains the reference car and will carry the maximum of 40kg of ballast at the US circuit.

The BMW 320 TC will remain at its 1,150kg base weight after the two fastest BMWs were an average of 0.7 seconds off the pace of the Chevrolets over the three previous events.

The Honda was a tenth faster at 0.6 seconds off the pace and therefore gains 10kg of ballast, putting it 30kg below the Chevrolet, whilst the SEAT León drops to -10kg against base weight, a full 50kg lighter than the Chevrolet Cruze as the WTCC returns to the USA.

The two Lada Grantas of James Thompson and Mikhail Kozlovskiy, making their debut in the USA next month, will remain at -20kg against base weight, the lightest possible allocation.

Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T – +40kg – 1,190kg

BMW 320 TC – +0kg – 1,150kg
