New and current specification cars permitted for 2014
The FIA has confirmed that cars conforming to new technical regulations will be used in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship as well as cars which comply with the current Super 2000 Appendix J 2011 rules.
Citroën confirmed earlier this week that they will enter the Championship next year with a car complying to the new regulations, whilst SEAT unveiled a León model at Salzburg which is also designed to comply with the new rules.
The World Motor Sport Council confirmed that the new cars “Will look more spectacular with bigger aerodynamic devices and will have greater performance through the power to weight ratio.”
In order to ease in the new regulations, the cars will be allowed three ‘joker’ changes in homologation during the 2014 season.
The FIA also confirmed that the current Super 2000 cars can continue to be used, with no other details as to whether they will be classed differently or whether performance between the new and old cars will be equalised at this time.
This will allow the current models including the successful BMW 320 TC and Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T to continue to be used in 2014.
