First WTCC race in Argentina will be held this August

After several attempts in recent years, Argentina will hold a round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship on August 4th this year at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit in Santiago del Estero.

As reported by TouringCarTimes back in March, Argentina has been linked since the start of the year with hosting the eighth round of this year’s WTCC.

The Argentinian round will replace the Brazilian round which was originally scheduled for the week prior at Curitiba.

“We have decided to swap from Brazil to Argentina because of logistics reasons,” said WTCC General Manager Marcello Lotti.

“However, we maintain close relationship with the Brazilian authorities and we plan to include both South American events in the 2014 calendar. We are proud to bring WTCC to Argentina for the first time. This is something we have worked on in the last three years and we wish to thank the Ministry of Tourism, the Instituto Nacional de Promoción Turística and the Government of the Province of Santiago del Estero for supporting us in achieving this goal.”

The WTCC will headline the event and it’s understood the production based Argentinian Turismo Nacional series will be one of the event’s support races.
