Austin hopes form will return at Oulton Park

A bemused Rob Austin said he hopes bolting the base setup on his Audi A4 at Oulton Park will see him fighting at the front again, after a trying Thruxton weekend.

The popular Worcestershire driver and team-mate Will Bratt spent all three races towards the tail of the field, at times struggling to keep up with the Jack Sears Trophy runners.

But Austin told TouringCarTimes he hoped a return to a more conventional circuit would help his fortunes.

Asked about the main problem at Thruxton, he said: “Oversteer. It is fun but it is really, really slow. We are trying everything – we’re throwing everything at it with massively different setups every time we go out. We can’t seem to get our heads around it.

“Obviously West Surrey Racing have managed to get their heads round it a bit better than us. They look a lot more planted than us.

“The suspension on these things is interesting at the best of times. I just think rear-wheel drive is just really difficult to set up here. We have to run it back to front compared to the front-wheel drives.

“Thruxton is a really odd circuit. I love the place, don’t get me wrong. But it is really not suited to our car.

“I’m sure once we go back to Oulton we can go back to our base setup and we will be back on the pace.”
