Two class wins restore Andreas Pfister’s title challenge
Andreas Pfister won both races in the Single-Make Trophy class at the Slovakiaring after a difficult first weekend at Monza, and was fighting for the overall win in the first laps with Mat’o Homola’s BMW in race two.
The German driver was leading the wet race at Monza last month before an alternator failure saw him forced to retire, handing the lead to Jordi Oriola’s Tuenti Racing SEAT and had to start from the back of the grid in race two.
In Slovakia there were no such problems for the SEAT Supercopa driver however, and Pfister finished third in both races behind the top pair of S2000 specification BMWs of Petr Fulín and Mat’o Homola, winning both races in the Single-Make Trophy class for SEAT Supercopa cars.
Race one was a quiet affair after missing the drama at the first corner, but race two was more exciting from the start, with Pfister launching from sixth in the grid into the lead, though eventually he would drop two spots to the BMWs of Mat’o Homola and Petr Fulín.
“I think the Supercopa cars have some advantage on the standing start because of our gearbox. I reacted really fast and saw that the right side was free – no one was there,” said Pfister to TouringCarTimes. “The BMWs are very fast, but we had a fair fight and it was fun.”
Pfister scored 22 points from a possible 23 at Slovakia which launched up him up to joint second place in the standings, and just four points behind Jordi Oriola’s SEAT with three races left to go.
“We lost many points in Monza, but now we are close and that’s OK, we can be happy. It’s still a long way to go. I also think the Salzburgring will be good for us as I’ve done many laps on the Salzburgring.”
