Diego Romanini to join the grid at Slovakia

Diego Romanani will drive for Proteam Racing in this year’s FIA European Touring Car Cup in a BMW 320si, and could later appear in the WTCC for the Italian team.

The 34-year-old Italian drove in the World Touring Car Championship in 2006 for Wiechers-Sport, finishing sixth in the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy, as well as the Superstars Series, driving for FR Competition in 2010, and in 2011 competed at Misano in the only appearance of MN Motorsport’s Lexus IS-F.

Romanini also took part in the final round of last year’s ETCC, driving one of Maurer Motorsport’s Chevrolet Aveo S1600s.

“I am very pleased with the opportunity I was offered,” said Romanini. “I hope to be up to their expectations and to deliver some good results. I am very keen to seize this chance to compete in the ETCC and maybe in some selected events of the WTCC.”
