Lo Ka Chun wins the race, but title goes to Andy Yan
Lo Ka Chun of 778 Autosport won the eighth round of the Super Production Class in the China Touring Car Championship held at the Shanghai Tianma Circuit, but Chang’an Ford FRD driver Andy Yan takes the drivers’ title.
Lo Ka Chun led the race from the start, with Ford’s Andy Yan and Rainey He following behind with Kia’s Lo Ka Fai and VW’s Wang Rue in fourth and fifth positions. An engine failure for Ren Jie’s Nissan brought out the first safety car intervention, which lasted until Lap 4, when Fan Gao Xiang also retired with a mechanical problem in his Ford Focus.
After the restart, there was plenty of action in the mid-field. Zhang Zhi Dong of Shanghai VW 333 Racing, standing in for Han Han this weekend, made strong progress, passing his team-mate Wang Rue on Lap 13, as well as Kia’s Lo Ka Fai, and the two Fords of Jiang Tengyi and Andy Yan on Lap 24 to take second place.
Lo Ka Fai, teammate and brother of the race leader Lo Ka Chun, was fighting hard throughout the race. He passed Jiang Tengyi and Andy Yan on lap 13 and 26 respectively to finish third overall.
Although Lo Ka Chun won the race, Andy Yan took the drivers’ Championship with his fifth place overall.
Wang Rue, who finished sixth overall and third in the Super Production Turbo (SPT) class, was crowned as the first drivers’ champion in the SPT class.
