Volvo S60 Racing keep wins with appeal

The Volvo S60 Racing team has kept its two race wins from Dijon-Prenois after successfully winning their appeal against disqualification.

The Soumagne-based team had taken victory in both rounds at the French circuit, but it had been announced that the team would be disqualified after the first race as the team were running with 12″ rear wheels, when the series had made a rule amendment that as from this season all teams must run 10″ wheels.

The team announced its intention to appeal the regulation change, forced to run in their ‘2010 specification’ as they waited for the new 10″ wheels from their suppliers. Volvo also went on to take victory in the weekend’s second race with drivers Eric van de Poele and Vincent Radermecker.

According to Turbo Magazine, the court of appeal found that the series had not justified the change to Article 12.2 of the Belgian Touring Car Series 2011 technical regulations, with the regulations themselves stating in Article 2.6:

“This regulation will be valid for a period of 3 years as of 01/01/2010, except for safety-related amendments and the well functioning of the Series, and this after approval of the National Sport Authority (ASN), in deliberation with the promoter.”

As a result, the Volvo S60 Racing team’s two race victories have been confirmed, and theoretically means the team can continue to run with their 12″ wheels at the next round of the championship, the 12 Hours of Spa.
